This Davenport desk is inspired by many variations of this particular form of furniture with my own design elements. It has eight functional drawers, six on the sides, and two inside the cubbyhole section. The lid with leather insert, lifts to reveal cubbyholes and a pencil tray. It is made entirely of Anigre and measures 2″ x 2″ by 4″ tall.
This style of desk dates back to somewhere near the end of the 18th century when a Captain Davenport commissioned one from Gillows of Lancaster and London furniture makers. This desk style was quite popular in the 19th century.
